Keyboard Shortcuts for Grid Navigation

Using keyboard shortcuts can drastically increase efficiency, especially in areas that require a lot of data entry. Keyboard shortcuts are available throughout LabOnline. The most common hot-keys are listed here.

Note: By convention, hot-keys are referenced with capital letters. It is not necessary to hold the Shift key or turn on Caps Lock. In other words, Alt+B is the same as Alt+b.

The table that follows shows the keys that you can use to navigate within grids, column headers and to access grid sub-functions such as sort, columns, and grid filters.

Keyboard Shortcut Action

Tab

Moves focus to the next cell.

Shift+Tab

Moves focus to the previous cell.

Arrow keys

Moves focus one cell at a time.

Enter

Moves to the next row. When a collapsible item is selected, triggers expand or collapse.

Home

Go to the top of the grid.

End

Go to the bottom of the grid.

Shift+PageUp

Moves to the first page of data for a grid with multiple pages.

Shift+PageDown

Moves to the last page of data for a grid with multiple pages.

Ctrl+Home

 

Moves focus to the first cell of the grid.

Ctrl+End

 

Moves focus to the last cell of the grid.

Space bar

Within a grid cell, selects the cell and if the cell has a link, opens the link in a new browser.

Alt+B

Keeps selected rows in a grid highlighted and moves focus to the buttons above the grid. Affects the following LabOnline grids:

  • Workorders/Samples/Patients

  • Workorder Results, Sample Results, Patient Results

  • Order Tests (multiple grids based on profile type)

  • View Orders

  • Final Reports, Other Reports

  • Queries

Alt+P

Moves focus to the page controls for a grid with multiple pages.

F4

 

Moves focus into the column header of the currently focused column.

Alt+Down

When a column header is focused, it opens the column menu.

Esc

When in a column menu, it closes the menu and returns focus to the column header.

Alt+Shift+CtrlShift+Left/Right Arrow

Navigates between grids and detail panels. For example, in Order Tests, this hot-key moves focus between the samples grid and the details pane for the selected sample. Moves between a master grid and detail panel and between dual grids and arrow selectors.

Alt+Shift+Down

(When focus is on a master grid row with an associated detail grid) Move to the first cell of the detail grid for the current row.

Alt+Shift+Up

(When focus is on a detail grid row) Move to the first cell of the master grid row for the current detail grid.
